Happy Birthday Mr. Bob Dylan

Bob Dylan was born on May 24, 1941 in Duluth, Minnesota, as Robert Allen Zimmerman. He gained world success as a singer, composer and a poet. He is one of the greatest artists of 20th century and a cult personality of the 1960s. He is also the first musician who won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2016.

Often, through his music, he expressed his opposition to politics and social dogma, talked about the problems of religion and belief in general, and of course lot of his songs are about love. He has a wide and creative opus, and his most famous songs are Blowin ‘in The Wind, The Times They Are a-Changin, Like A Rolling Stone, Just Like a Woman, All Along the Watchtower, Lay Lady Lay and many others.

The influence of Bob Dylan on rock music is remarkable. He is one of the first musicians who insisted on the quality of song lyrics, and his singing opened the door to other singers with less attractive voice, such as Lou Reed from The Velvet Underground. He was one of the first to play folk rock (which was inspired by his song “The Byrds” by Mr Tambourine Man) and country rock and americana (1968-1970’s The Basement Tapes, John Wesley Harding, 1968). and Nashville Skyline from 1969. He is the owner of a first double album in 1966, Blonde on Blonde, and his then unpublished recordings with The Band, the reason for the bootleg album The Great White Wonder (1969), the first bootleg in the history of rock music. Bob Dylan is a unique musician and author and is also known by pseudonyms: Elston Gunn, Blind Boy Grunt, Lucky Wilbury, Booth, Elmer Johnson, Sergei Petrov, Jack Frost, Jack Fate, Willow Scarlet or Robert Milkwood Thomas. He also collaborated with bands: The Band, Traveling Wilburys, Grateful Dead and Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers.

He is a versatile musician, plays guitar, harmonica and piano. In his forty-six years of career, since releasing his first album, Bob Dylan in 1962 he has released 44 albums, including The Freewheelin’s Bob Dylan, Blonde on Blonde, Blood on the Tracks, Desire and the newer Love and Theft Modern Times, until the last one Triple ( 2017.). Another peculiarity that he can boast is that he won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2016, “for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition” and became the only musician to succeed that.

It is because of its versatility and influence on music, that this year HOHNER used him in its “Play The Original” campaign to promote the HOHNER harmonicas that Dylan has been using for many years. It’s just a continuation of co-operation, as they have been collaborating on the Bob Dylan Signature series.

Today, Bob Dylan celebrates his 77th birthday. We wish him a happy birthday and many more albums.
