33. Days of Croatian Wind Orchestras

This year Novi Vinodolski hosted yet another Croatian Wind Orchestras festival organized by the Croatian Parliament of Culture as the head organization of cultural and artistic amateurism in Croatia. 8th and 9th of June 2019, Novi Vinodolski, Crikvenica and Selce were the centers of Croatian wind music with competition and rehearsal program, featuring 16 orchestras and a total of 650 musicians.

The opening of the 33. Days of Croatian Wind Orchestras was on Saturday afternoon with the joint performance of all 650 musicians at the central Square of Ivan Mazuranic in Novi Vinodolski under the guidance of maestro Ivan Glibota. On the repertoire was the Ode to Joy (Beethoven, 9th Symphony in D minor) and the Novi Vinodolski march (Poklepovic).

The evaluation part of the program took place during Saturday afternoons and evenings, and Sunday morning at the Novak House of Culture, and the Wind Orchestra have been evaluated by a professional jury consisting of Ivan-Josip Skender, Vanja Lisak and Miro Saje. In category A, the best was Orchestra HPO City Music of Imotski, who with 96.88 points and they got the Golden Plaque. This orchestra was also rewarded with the Croatian Composers’ Society Award for the performance of “Morlacki Dance” by Tonci Ciceric.

Exclusive sponsors of the 33rd Days of Croatian Wind Orchestras, Euro-Unit, Yamaha Music Europe, Buffet Crampon and Lion Style, provided valuable awards as musical instruments and music equipment for the best-rated orchestras of both categories.

As guests, the musicians of the Slovenian Cultural Society “Mengeska godba” performed as guests under the direction of Dimitri Lederer.
