Choir Festival at Čakovec Cultural Center

On Friday, March 21, 2025, the jubilee 10th Choir Festival of Primary and Secondary Schools of Međimurje County was held at the Cultural Center in Čakovec. This significant musical event brought together around five hundred young singers from across Međimurje, who had the opportunity to showcase their talent and love for choral singing.

The festival was organized by Ivanovec Primary School, in cooperation with Međimurje County and with the support of the City of Čakovec. The program was divided into two parts: a competitive segment, where choirs performed set pieces such as “Šala” by Lovro Županović and “Dvije međimurske” by Josip Slavenski, and a showcase segment, where they presented songs of their own choice.

The performances were evaluated by an expert jury consisting of Prof. Ruža Dada from the Varaždin Music School, Prof. Branimir Magdalenić from the Faculty of Teacher Education at the University of Zagreb, and Prof. Tomislav Cvrtila from the Faculty of Teacher Education.

Among the many choirs that performed at the Cultural Center were:

Children’s Choir (Younger Age Group) of Petar Zrinski Primary School, Šenkovec

A special highlight of the festival was the joint performance of the traditional Međimurje song “Da nam pak dojde to vreme (Katruže)” by all choirs, creating an unforgettable moment for performers and the audience. The program was hosted by Nataša Kralj, and following the festival, a roundtable discussion was held at the Museum Information Center in the Old Town, where mentors and jury members analyzed the performances.

The event’s music sponsor was EURO-UNIT, which provided a Yamaha digital piano for accompanying the performers.
